Problem
Lessening the conflicts that can arise from living with roommates with subjective meanings of clean, especially in the kitchen.
Goal
Create a design solution that will help to mitigate conversations and make controls over shared household space and items easier to access.
Target Audience
Young Adults, 18-28, currently living with roommates outside of relatives in the United States, living in a housing unit with a kitchen.
Needfinding Discoveries
data analyzed from seven in-depth phone interviews
• The kitchen is the largest stressor
• Sharing space in bedroom and common areas not as big of an issue
• Ineffective communication methods amongst roommates
After this, project scope was refined to be more focused on keeping shared spaces clean instead of geared towards roommate issues as a whole
